5 Things Every Parent of an Adult Child Needs to Know

1. It Never Ends

Children grow up, but a parent's love and intercession never retire.

4I will be your God throughout your lifetime- until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.

3 Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. 4 Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy,

Our hands may release our adult children, but our knees should never stop praying.

2. You Can't Fix Them

Parents cannot be their children's savior; only God can transform the human heart.

26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

You cannot change your child's heart, but you can bring them before the God who can.

3. You Must Stop Blaming Yourself

Past mistakes should be acknowledged, but they should not become chains that hinder today's prayers.

1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Do not allow yesterday's guilt to rob you of today's power to pray for your children.

4. You Have to Forgive

Unforgiveness keeps parents bound to the past; forgiveness enables us to continue interceding in love.

Forgive your adult children for the hurt they have caused.

Forgive your spouse or former spouse for past failures in parenting.

Forgive yourself for past mistakes.

Forgiveness does not deny the hurt; it releases judgment and bitterness to God.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

13 Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

We cannot cling to bitterness and freely bless our children at the same time.

5. There Is Only One Perfect Parent

          【Rev 1:20】

The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

The Lord Jesus used the golden lampstand as a symbol of the church, showing the continuity between the New Testament church and Old Testament Israel, God's chosen people.

This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
